DES MOINES, IA – Coming off a loss earlier this week to the Moose, the Iowa Wild were zoned in on getting the two points tonight in the eighth and final match up of these two for the season. The Wild grinded out a 4-2 win to take the season series with a record of 5-2-0-1 in eight games.
This was another tight battle as all eight of there games against each other have been hard nosed tight checking wars.
Iowa got goals from Grayson Downing his 18th, Joe Finley his 3rd, Dylan Labbe his 3rd, Christoph Bertschy his 11th into an empty net.
Moose got goals from Dan DeSalvo who scored his 3rd goal of the year with just 18 seconds off the clock. Patrice Cormier got his 15th a power play marker.
Cormier has goals in back-to-back games and Brenden Kichton picked up an apple and extends his point streak to five games.
The Wild scored two in the second period to put themselves up by two before the Moose made things interesting.
Connor Hellebuyck saw his personal five game win streak snapped although he did stand on his head stopping 35 shots. He falls to 11-14-1 on the year.
Rookie Mario Lucia led the Wild with two assists and notched his first career points in the AHL after coming over from Notre Dame University after they were eliminated. Lucia was the game’s second star.
Manitoba will return home to face the Milwaukee Admirals for a two-game series starting on Tuesday night.
