WICHITA, KS – One of the additional moves the team made to make room for Chris Rumble, who was assigned to the team from Binghamton on Monday, was to move a defenseman since the team is currently carrying seven on the roster.
The odd-man out was defenseman Greg Amlong, who was sent to the Reading Royals for future considerations today. Defenseman Martin Nemcik remains on the Wichita’s Immigration Pending list and is not likely to play this weekend. In addition, forward Tommy Veilleux has been waived. Veilleux did not play for the Thunder during the regular season.
Amlong played in the Thunder’s season opener against Tulsa and did not register a point or take a penalty, but was a -2 in the game.
Last year, after completing his senior season at the Rochester Institute of Technology, he played five games for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits of the ECHL and picked up an assist and two penalty minutes. In his senior year at RIT, Amlong tied for the team lead in scoring amongst defensemen with twenty-one points (4g-17a) in thirty-six games as the Tigers won the Atlantic Hockey Championship—and advanced to the NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey Tournament—for the second straight year.
Reading will play Wheeling in a rematch of their Eastern Conference semifinal series, tomorrow night at WesBanco Arena.
