WICHITA, KS – The Wichita Thunder were busy making moves Monday ahead of their first three-in-three of the season.
In the first set of moves, the Bakersfield Condors announced they re-assigned centerman Greg Chase to Wichita. Chase has seen action at the ECHL level, playing 43 games with the Norfolk Admirals during the 2015-16 season, collecting 37 points (18G, 19A) in the process. In 73 AHL games, Chase has just 22 pts (5G, 17A).
“Chase is a skilled player with a good shot and is good on the power play.” Thunder head coach Malcolm Cameron said.
Also coming to Wichita is Evan Polei, a 6-foot-1, 228-pound left-winger, who will be seeing his first action in the ECHL. The 21-year-old forward played 69 games for the Red Deer Rebels in the Western Hockey League (Canada) and one more in Bakersfield last season, piling up 106 penalty minutes in the process. In two games this season, Polei has one assist and no penalty minutes.
“They are full up front (in Bakersfield) and need to get players playing regularly,” Cameron said of the moves.
The Condors also announced they have released defenseman Jamie Doornbosch from his player tryout and he will be coming back to Wichita. Doornbosch made his debut Saturday night against Stockton but was held off the scoresheet. For the season in Wichita, Doornbosch has an assist in two games and is a plus-3.
The Thunder were also busy on the trade front Monday, acquiring veteran defenseman Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel from the Wheeling Nailers for cash considerations. The addition of Dieude-Fauvel comes after Guillaume Lepine was seen leaving the ice with an ace bandage wrapped around his hand after the team’s win against Kansas City Saturday night. Cameron did not comment on the injury, citing team policy, nor did he comment on how much time, if any, Lepine would miss.
Dieude-Fauvel, 30, is a well-traveled defenseman; having played most recently for the Wheeling Nailers. His team roster includes stops in Laredo (CHL), Elmira (ECHL), Quad City (CHL & ECHL), Evansville (ECHL), Rapid City (ECHL), Kalamazoo (ECHL), and Kansas City (ECHL).
His most productive year of his career came between 2013-14, where he posted 40 points (11g, 29a) with the Quad City Mallards. He earned a call-up the next season to the AHL’s Iowa Wild, where he appeared in 20 games. Overall, Dieude-Fauvel has 146 points (44g, 102a) and 486 penalty minutes in 450 career games as a pro.
