WICHITA, Kan. – For the third straight signing, the Wichita Thunder have announced a defenseman. The latest addition to the Thunder 2018-19 roster adds toughness to the blueline and leadership to the locker room.
During a Facebook live Q & A session with fans Tuesday, the team announced the signing of veteran defenseman Tyler Elbrecht.
“Tyler is a physical, rugged veteran defenseman that competes game in and game out,” stated Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. “In watching him play against us the last two years, what really stood out was how hard he played and stuck up for his teammates. We look forward to having him in a Thunder uniform this season.”
“I’m excited to join the Thunder organization,” said Elbrecht. “Over the past two seasons, I’ve seen what type of character, skill, and toughness they bring and that’s something I want to be a part of. I look forward to joining the team they have and doing my part to bring a Kelly Cup to Wichita.”
The 29-year-old native of Edwardsville, Illinois joins the Thunder after spending parts of the last two seasons with the Kansas City Mavericks, playing in 119 games and serving as the team’s captain last season. Overall, Elbrecht has played his entire professional career in the ECHL with seven different teams. In 334 games, he has amassed 62 points (10G, 52A) and 755 penalty minutes.
Elbrecht joins player/assistant Pierre Cedric Labrie, Ralph Cuddemi, Matt Schmalz, and Lane Bauer as those that have signed on for the 2018-19 campaign, with additional announcements expected soon.
