Season Series Recap: The Mavericks dominated the season series against the Mallards, winning all five matchups, holding the Mallards to two or less goals in four of the five tilts.

How Missouri wins: The Mavericks have had a lot of success against the Mallards due to their scoring depth, skating ability and suffocating defense. With the Mavericks getting both Josh Robinson and Parker Milner back from their stints in the AHL, as well as Carter Verhaeghe returning from Bridgeport, the Mavericks get reinforcements on both sides of the puck. Darian Dziurzynski has carried the Mavericks offensively since Jesse Root went down with a season-ending injury and looks to stay hot.

How Quad City Wins: It’s always a tall task for a bottom seed to take down a top seed, but the Mavericks haven’t been playing their best hockey of late, entering the playoffs with a 5-5 record in the final 10 games of the regular season. Steve Michalek will not return for Quad City in the first round of the playoffs, so the onus falls on Brody Hoffman and P.J. Musico to be great in net. Olivier Archambault and Matt Carey are two talented forwards, but they can’t do it alone. The Mallards will need a healthy dose of secondary scoring in order to knock off the league’s best Mavericks. Also, players like Alex Gudbranson and Mike Monfredo will need to throw their weight around early and often, attempting to disrupt the Mavericks as they transition up the ice.
