WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have re-signed forward Shane Gersich to a one-year, two way contract for the 2020-21 season ($700,000/$150,000).
Gersich had 18 points during the 2019-20 season with the Hershey Bears (10 goals, eight assists). His point totals were a new career best, with Gersich also scoring his first career hat trick back on January 31.
Gersich enters his third year in the Capitals organization after debuting during the 2018-19 season in Hershey. In total, he has 42 points (18 goals, 24 assists) in 120 career regular season games, as well as a goal and two assists in nine postseason appearances. Gersich was selected 134th overall in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

As with a number of other re-signings this offseason, Gersich is an important returning piece of last year’s group in Hershey. He joins a very familiar roster with some key additions to hopefully put the Chocolate and White in a good spot to repeat a season where the team finished one point out of first place in the Atlantic Division at the stoppage. The Bears had a few players depart in free agency, but the majority of the forward group has returned for next season.
Regarding special teams, Gersich was an important player on Hershey’s penalty kill unit and was flexible to play throughout the lineup, which is reflected in his career plus-ten mark with the Bears. With the recent addition of Daniel Carr (who could play in Hershey this season), the return of Gersich helps to round out the roster with his solid two-way play.
