WEST VALLEY CITY, UT – Prior to Utah’s game against Atlanta Friday night at Maverik Center, representatives from the Anaheim Ducks and Utah Grizzlies announced a multiyear extension to their current affiliation agreement, which is currently in its third season.
“We are pleased to extend our relationship with the Utah Grizzlies,” said Anaheim Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “The close proximity of our affiliates in San Diego and Utah is very important to us and something the organization will greatly benefit from in the years to come. Both the Ducks and Grizzlies are committed to player development, which makes this an ideal fit for us.”
As an affiliate of the Ducks, the Grizzlies, under Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham, have a record of 103-70-20. Meanwhile, Anaheim is currently chasing their fourth-straight Pacific Division Championship.
“This affiliation has been instrumental to our success not only as an organization but also our on ice product,” said Branham. “I look forward to continuing our relationship and working closely with them.”
Anaheim currently has the closest proximity in the NHL’s Pacific Division to both their ECHL affiliate and their AHL affiliate; which is in its first year in San Diego.
Over the last three seasons, Utah’s goaltenders under contract with the Ducks organization have combined to go 68-37-11 in Ryan Faragher, Matt Hackett and Igor Bobkov.
“Anaheim has a ton of depth,” said Branham. “Their brass has done a tremendous job of putting together a highly competitive team each and every year while also continuing to fill their pipe line, and we are benefactors of that.”
Charles Sarault, currently under contract with the Ducks is currently Utah’s leading scorer with 14 goals and 32 assists for 46 points in 46 games.
This season, the Grizzlies have already had 10 players with ties to the Anaheim organization suit up in Utah. Over the last three seasons, 24 different players with Anaheim ties have dressed for the Grizzlies.
