WICHITA, KS – The Wichita Thunder continue to get players from Binghamton ahead of Saturday’s season opener against the Tulsa Oilers.
The Binghamton Senators announced they have assigned defenseman Macoy Erkamps to the Thunder and released Jack Rodewald from his AHL tryout.
The 21-year-old Erkamps is coming off his best season so far, having poured in 71 points (13G, 58A) and was a plus-47 in 72 regular-season games from the blueline with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League last season. He signed a three-year entry level NHL contract with the Ottawa Senators in April.
“He is a player we’ve had an eye on over the course of his junior career,” said Senators Senior Hockey Advisor (then General Manager) Bryan Murray in April. “He’s a talented, competitive guy whose game took a big jump this season.”
Rodewald, 22, is joining the Thunder for his second full season as a pro. In 62 games with the Orlando Solar Bears last season, the native of Winnipeg, Manitoba recorded 47 points (18g, 29a) and also appeared in seven games for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound forward played under Coach Cameron when he was a member of the WHL’s Regina Pats in 2011-12 and 2012-13. His best season in the junior ranks came in 2014-15 when he piled up 85 points (35g, 50a) in 71 games. He finished with 166 points (76g, 90a) in 255 career games in the WHL.
Season-opening rosters are due into the ECHL offices by 3 Eastern Time this afternoon and will be released sometime Friday.
