TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo Walleye will pay homage to a hockey legend later this month. The team will wear jerseys inspired by former player, Boston Bruins coach and legendary hockey commentator Don Cherry.

The Walleye gave some reasoning for the promotion in a release on their website:

“The Toledo Walleye and WIOT are teaming up to celebrate one of the biggest personalities in hockey history during ‘Don Cherry Jersey Night’ at the Huntington Center on Saturday, January 23. The jerseys worn by the Walleye that night will be as loud as ‘Grapes’ is!”

The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game, with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society and the Walleye Wishing Well.

So far this season, the Walleye had 8-bit jersey night and Holy Toledo specialty jerseys.
