Head Coach: Dan Watson
–Following six years as an Assistant Coach and a year as an Associate Coach, Dan Watson enters his first year as Toledo’s Head Coach.
–Nightingale will wear the “C” for the third straight season.
-Regular Season record of (47-20-5)
-First in the North Division, First in the Eastern Conference
-Lost in Conference Quarterfinals in seven games to the Reading Royals
After a solid regular season, Toledo just couldn’t get it going against the Reading Royals in the playoffs. Former goalie Jeff Lerg wasn’t on his game and Toledo struggled mightily at home while, oddly enough, playing very well on the road to even force a game seven.
–Toledo has most of their players coming back including the main ”core” guys.
–22 goals and 23 assists in 55 games last year
–24 goals and 43 assists in 61 games last year
–14 goals and 11 assists in 32 games last year
Who’s Through: Even though Toledo saw the much-needed guys return, the Walleye still lost valuable members for last year’s squad.
-10 goals and 16 assists in 69 games last year
-Currently with the Cincinnati Cyclones
-20 goals and 22 assists last year
-Currently with the Wheeling Nailers
-Two goals and 27 assists in 61 games
-Currently with Riga Dynamo of the KHL with one goal and three assists through 15 games.
Carter Sandlak brings AHL experience and one of the few guys who can bring toughness to the team.
Jordan Hill also has AHL experience and somebody who adds depth to Toledo defense.
Calvin Heeter has played at the highest level, both in North American, and also overseas. The Walleye could rely heavily on Heeter if Jake Patterson was to get called up.
Movin On Up:
Tyler Skuira – Following his first pro season which saw him have interest from AHL’s Portland Pirates and now in this training camp with the Rockford Icehogs, Skuira looks to continue his success from last year season. A guy that immediately made an impression from his first games in Toledo.
Tyson and Tylor Spink – Following their time with Toledo last year which only included the end of the regular season and the playoffs, the Spink brothers had quite an impact on Toledo in such a short time. The brother Spink are currently unsigned but could be very easily catch on during this season.
Jake Patterson may be the most underrated player from last year’s team, mostly because he was the backup. Patterson could be up and down a lot considering the Grand Rapids Griffins goalie situation. He could possibly a goalie for the the Detroit Red Wings in the near future.
Sin Bin Swami Says – It’s a team that needs to have a solid starting goalie. Toledo is just a little deeper than last year and really could be dangerous if Tyson and Tylor Spink stay in town and suit up for the Fish. The Walleye could be seeing a deep postseason run this season, given everything goes according to plan.
