Dryden Hunt tied the game for the Thunderbirds with 9:05 remaining in regulation with a one-timer to go past Smith with the setup from Curtis Valk as he made the pass to Hunt on the right side to tie it up at 2-2. Maxime Fortunus received the secondary assist.

The Checkers put an execution mark on the game 1:04 into overtime when former Thunderbird Greg McKegg took a shot from the left side and Zykov was able to put in the rebound past Montembeault for the game-winning goal and his 27th of the season to win it 3-2.
