BRIDGEPORT, CT – The Springfield Thunderbirds will travel to take on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers today at Webster Bank Arena. It will be the final meeting between these two teams in Bridgeport, but the Sound Tigers will travel to take on the Thunderbirds next Friday night.
The Sound Tigers are coming off a 3-2 victory last Wednesday at the MassMutual Center. They sit in the fourth and final playoff position in the Atlantic division, just one point ahead of the Hershey Bears, who are in fifth.
The Thunderbirds had two huge wins while relishing the role of spoiler, against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Providence Bruins last weekend. Thunderbirds goaltender Sam Brittain picked up two wins over the weekend improving his G.AA to 2.24 and his save percentage to .914 with a record of 4-3-0.
Heading into the game this morning, the Thunderbirds will be without defenseman MacKenzie Weegar and Ian McCoshen after being called up to the Florida Panthers over the weekend. They have called up defenseman Colton Saucerman and Ryan Hamilton from the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL.
Saucerman made his debut with the Thunderbirds on March 19th against the Albany Devils and did not register any points. He played in one game with the Hershey Bears earlier this year, not registering a point. With the Monarchs and the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL, he registered four goals and 27 assists in 53 games.
Hamilton just made his professional debut recently with the Manchester Monarchs, registering an assist. Hamilton just finished a four-year career with the University of Vermont Catamounts. The 6’0 192-pound defenseman from Calgary, Alberta scored 10 goals and registered 11 assists during the 2016-17 year. In four years, he scored 12 goals and registered 31 assists.
The Thunderbirds will conclude their final road trip of the campaign with games in Bridgeport today, Hartford on Friday, and Lehigh Valley on Saturday before concluding their inaugural season next week.
The puck will drop today in Bridgeport at Webster Bank Arena at 11:00 am Eastern.
