SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Springfield Thunderbirds will be back on home ice at the MassMutual Center to take on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. These two teams will meet three more times in the next 16 days.
The Thunderbirds are coming off a tough weekend after being swept on the road in three games with a 4-3 overtime loss and a 2-0 loss on Friday and Sunday against the Rochester Americans and a 4-1 loss on Saturday against the Toronto Marlies.
In the last meeting between these two teams, the Sound Tigers took down the 4-3 win in overtime at Webster Bank Arena back on February 7. Paul Thompson tied the game with 50 seconds left in regulation. Ryan Pullock scored the game-winning goal in overtime with a two-goal night. MacKenzie Weegar and Chase Balisy scored the other two goals for the Thunderbirds.
The Sound Tigers are in the hunt for a playoff spot in the American Hockey League Atlantic Division. The Sound Tigers are five points behind the Hershey Bears for the fourth and final playoff spot with nine games remaining in the 2016-17 campaign.
Since joining the Thunderbirds via trade from the Syracuse Crunch, goaltender Adam Wilcox has been on a hot streak, with a record of 4-2-1 along with two shutouts. He has a goals against average of 1.87 along with a .938 save percentage.
Chase Balisy could set the most points he has had in a single season.
Balisy playing in his third year of professional hockey, leads the Thunderbirds with 40 points with 14 goals and 26 assists and has played in all 67 Thunderbirds games during the 2016-17 campaign. Balisy logged in 73 games with the St. John’s Ice Caps during the 2014-15 year. Balisy had 44 points with 21 goals and 23 assists.
Paul Thompson leads the Thunderbirds in goals with 16.
