SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Springfield Thunderbirds will close out their inaugural season tonight and tomorrow against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the Hartford Wolf Pack with Fan Appreciation weekend.
The Thunderbirds will play the Sound Tigers for the third time in just 16 days. Second period goals have cost the Thunderbirds in previous games against the Sound Tigers. There is no love lost between these two teams as emotions have run high for both involved.
While the Thunderbirds are out of playoff contention, Bridgeport is out on the outside looking in. At the start of play Friday, the Sound Tigers trail the Hershey Bears by one point and the Providence Bruins by three points.
The first 2,000 fans that come to the game tonight will receive a team poster and will have a chance to get it signed by their favorite player at an autograph session after the game.
The Thunderbirds will close out their regular season on Saturday night when the Hartford Wolf Pack come to town. The Wolf Pack are out of playoff contention as they rank 15th in the American Hockey League Eastern Conference and seventh in the Atlantic Division. The Wolf Pack took down the victory last Friday night at the XL Center by the final score of 4-3.
Before the game on Saturday, there will be a Block Party on Court Square in Downtown Springfield that will start at 4:00 and run until 6:00 P.M. There will be music from the band Fat as well as concessions. There will be plenty of prize giveaways on Saturday night.
The puck will drop in both games tonight and tomorrow at 7:05 P.M.
