SPRINGFIELD, MA-The Springfield Thunderbirds will close out 2017 with a home game tonight at the MassMutual Center against the Hershey Bears and tomorrow against the Hartford Wolf Pack at the XL Center in Hartford, CT.
The Thunderbirds are coming off the Christmas Break after losing to the Providence Bruins 2-1 in a shootout last Saturday. Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson scored the game-winning goal in the shootout as well as a goal in the first period for the Bruins. Alexandre Grenier scored the only goal for the Thunderbirds in the game last weekend.
The last time the Thunderbirds and the Bears met was back on Wednesday, November 22 at the Giant Center in Hershey. The Thunderbirds came out with the 2-1 victory. Thomas Schemitsch scored the game-winning goal in the third period. Anthony Greco scored the other goal for the Thunderbirds. Dustin Gazley scored the lone goal for the Bears.
The Bears are coming into Springfield tonight after losing to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-1 on Wednesday. Liam O’Brien scored his eighth of the season for the Bears.
Former WWE Champion and current Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan will be making an appearance at the game this evening.
The Thunderbirds will travel to the XL Center on Saturday to take on the Hartford Wolf Pack. These two teams last met two weeks ago at the MassMutual Center as it was a goaltender duo with the Thunderbirds coming out on top with a 2-1 victory in the shootout. Thunderbirds goaltender Sam Montembeault made 32 saves in the win. Wolf Pack goaltender Marek Mazanec made 42 saves in the team loss. Francois Beauchemin scored the game-winning goal in the shootout for the Thunderbirds. Ryan Gropp scored the only goal for the Wolf Pack giving them the early lead as Bobby Farnham came back for the Thunderbirds and tied the game.
The puck will drop between the Bears and the Thunderbirds tonight at the MassMutual Center at 7:05 p.m. and tomorrow at the XL Center in Hartford at 7 p.m.
