The Wichita Thunder head coach Kevin McClelland continues to build his team for the upcoming season, adding a steady defenseman and returning the leading scorer from the 2014-15 squad.
Coming to Wichita for his first season is defenseman Ray Macias, who was a fourth round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in eight NHL games in two separate seasons, where he collected one assist and was a -1. Last season Macias played 16 games last season for the Utah Grizzlies, before his season was cut short due to injury. In those 16 games, he was a +5.
Returning to Wichita for a second season is Danick Gauthier. In 66 games with the team last season, Gauthier collected 68 points (29G, 39A) and was the team’s lone representative to the ECHL All-Star game in Orlando. Gauthier has split time between the ECHL and AHL in each of his first three professional seasons. In 60 AHL games, he has 17 points (8G, 9A,) but in 104 ECHL games, he has 93 points (38G, 55A.)
The signing of Macias and return of Gauthier mean the Thunder now have eight players announced for next season.
