FORT WAYNE, IN – One night after scoring a combined ten goals to open the series, you would think game two between the Fort Wayne Komets and Utah Grizzlies would trend toward a more defensive posture.

No.

The scoring kept up right where it left off Friday night, only with a much earlier start tonight. Komets forward Brett Perlini got the scoring started just 22 seconds in to the game, as he beat Mark Owuya to give the Komets a 1-0 lead. Thanks to this stat from Justin Cohn, the Komets have out scored the Grizzlies 4-0 in the first 3:23 of game action in this series.

But, Utah would respond. With just .4 seconds left on the first period clock, Barry Almeida scored his first goal of the night to tie the game at 1.

Almeida’s goal gave the Grizzlies a lift headed into the second period. Troy Bourke was sent off to serve a too many men bench minor at 2:16 of the period and with six seconds left on the man advantage, Almeida scored his second of the night to give the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead.

Just 81 seconds later, Alex Belzile answered back as he ripped one by Owuya to knot the game at two.  Owuya and Pat Nagle would hold both teams off the scoreboard for the rest of the middle stanza.
The Komets broke the tie 5:57 into the third and took a 4-2 lead with 6:10 left after Utah had just killed 58 seconds down five-on-three and 3:02 straight shorthanded.

The Grizzlies got one back as Ryan Hayes fed Charles Sarault for a shorthanded goal to complete a two-on-one with 4:50 left, but the Grizzlies would be unable to add another equalizer after Shawn Szydlowski salted the game away with an empty netter with just 11 seconds left.

Fort Wayne now has a 2-0 lead in this best-of-seven series, with games 3-5 to be played at Maverik Center this Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights (Saturday if necessary).
