SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Springfield Thunderbirds will continue their push for a run at the Calder Cup Playoffs when they take on their I-91 rival, the Hartford Wolfpack.  This game is crucial for the Thunderbirds as they are 13 points out of the final playoff spot. The Hershey Bears currently sits in fifth place in the Atlantic Division just ahead of Springfield, despite having more points than the fourth place team Bridgeport. The Sound Tigers have a higher winning percentage with two games in hand, however.

The Wolfpack are in the cellar of the division with 39 points.  The Thunderbirds came out victorious in the last meeting between these two teams with a 2-1 win at the MassMutual Center back on December 30th.  These two teams will meet each other three times over the next three weeks with tonight’s game in Springfield, then at the XL Center in Hartford next Sunday, February 19th,  and then back at the MassMutual Center on Saturday, February 25th.

(Side note: WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair will be at the game. WOOOOOOOOOOO!)

The Utica Comets will play the Thunderbirds on Saturday night. In the season series, they are even at 1-1. The Thunderbirds lost the first game in overtime back in November in Utica. The Thunderbirds responded with an overtime win in Utica on January 25th. The Comets rank fifth in the AHL North Division and are three points behind the Toronto Marlies for the final playoff spot in the North Division. The Thunderbirds and Comets will wrap up their season series at the MassMutual Center next Friday night, February 17th.

The Thunderbirds will wrap up another three games in three nights with a Sunday afternoon tilt against the Providence Bruins. The Thunderbirds have had their hands full with the Bruins this season, winning only two meetings with one in Springfield and the other in Providence. Providence took the win last Friday night in a heartbreaker with a 2-1 win over the Thunderbirds. These two teams will also meet again in Providence on Sunday, February 26th.

The puck will drop tonight and tomorrow night at the MassMutual Center 7:05 P.M. Sunday’s matinee affair in Providence will get under way at 3:05pm.
