The Missouri Mavericks locked up their first Brabham Cup title (second league regular-season title as a franchise) last night with a 2-1 overtime win over the Evansville IceMen. Josh Holmstrom scored the game-winning goal. As long as the Mavericks play in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, they will have home-ice advantage.

Elsewhere, the Manchester Monarchs did not inch closer to clinching a playoff berth last night, as they were defeated by the Brampton Beast 4-2. Beast defenseman Dalton Thrower scored the game-winning goal in the middle stages of the third period.

The Orlando Solar Bears are within two points of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference after defeating the Greenville Swamp Rabbits 6-3. Orlando still has two games in-hand on the 5th thru 8th place teams in the conference.

In the West, Wheeling played Fort Wayne to a scoreless draw through regulation, but Shawn Szydlowski scored 95 seconds into overtime to give Fort Wayne a 1-0 win. The Komets are in sole possession of second place in the Western Conference.

Adam Pleskach scored the shootout-winning goal to give the Tulsa Oilers a crucial 3-2 win over the Utah Grizzlies. The win means Tulsa leap frogs over the Quad City Mallards for the 8th playoff spot, while Utah still has a four-point lead over Colorado for the sixth playoff spot. The Oilers and Grizzlies will play two more times this week.

Thursday’s Key Games:

Out east, the South Carolina Stingrays clinch a playoff berth with a win in regulation or overtime against the Atlanta Gladiators.

While in the west, the Cincinnati Cyclones will look to close the gap on the final home-ice spot (currently occupied by Allen) down to three points as they take on the hapless Indy Fuel.

Here are the Magic Numbers for clinching division titles as of Thursday:

Division Division Leader Magic Number
East Manchester 7
North Toledo 3
South South Carolina 13
Midwest Fort Wayne 12
