With 17 days left in the ECHL’s regular-season, the push for the Kelly Cup Playoffs is quickly gathering momentum.
Wheeling defeated the Toledo Walleye Tuesday night by the score of 4-0, preventing Toledo from sewing up at least a top-3 seed in the conference for the time being. The Walleye will win the North Division title with two more wins or a win and a loss by the Wheeling Nailers. The Walleye are off tonight, while the Nailers travel to Fort Wayne to take on the Komets.
It could be a momentous night in Independence, MO as the Mavericks host the Evansville IceMen. With a win, the Mavericks will clinch the Brabham Cup and lock up home-ice advantage throughout the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Wednesday’s Key Games:
Manchester is at home to play the Brampton Beast. With a win, the Monarchs could move to within two points of the Walleye for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Orlando hosts Greenville at Amway Center tonight. With a win, the Solar Bears could climb to within two points of the eighth spot in the East. A loss, combined with a Manchester win, would knock the Monarchs’ magic number for clinching a playoff berth down to one.
Tulsa travels to Utah to play the Grizzlies in the first of a three-game series this week. It is a big series for both clubs, as Tulsa sits just a single point behind Quad City for the final playoff spot, while Utah is just five points above the cut-line.
Here are the Magic Numbers for clinching division titles as of Wednesday:
