Reading and Adirondack failed to clinch spots in the Kelly Cup Playoffs Tuesday night, thanks to six unanswered goals in the second and third periods by the Elmira Jackals. With the win for the Jackals, they keep their playoff hopes alive and jump into a tie for seventh with the Wheeling Nailers.
Out west, the Tulsa Oilers kept their thin playoff hopes alive, with a win over the suddenly slumping Missouri Mavericks 4-1. The Oilers are three points behind the Quad City Mallards, with three games remaining.
Teams in the Kelly Cup Playoffs:
East: Toledo Walleye, South Carolina Stingrays, Manchester Monarchs, Florida Everblades
West: Missouri Mavericks, Fort Wayne Komets, Idaho Steelheads, Allen Americans, Colorado Eagles, Utah Grizzlies, Cincinnati Cyclones
Wednesday’s Key Matchups:
The biggest matchup in the East tonight is in Brampton, ONT where the Kalamazoo Wings look to keep their hot streak going against the Brampton Beast. A win for the Wings would put them in sole possession of the seventh position in the Eastern Conference. A loss would be huge, as this is the Wings’ final game in-hand on the Elmira Jackals.
In the Western Conference, almost every game on the slate has some implication on the playoff race.
With a win over the Fort Wayne Komets and Tulsa loss, the Quad City Mallards can clinch their second straight berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The Tulsa Oilers need a win to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. The Oilers play the Wichita Thunder at INTRUST Bank Arena, and have a 7-1-1-1 record against the Thunder this season.
Finally in Anchorage, AK, the Colorado Eagles look to regain the West Division lead over with a win over the Alaska Aces. Colorado comes into the game sporting a 6-2-0-0 record against the Aces this season.
Wednesday’s Playoff Clinching Scenarios:
The Toledo Walleye will clinch the Eastern Conference regular-season title & home-ice throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs with any South Carolina loss.
The Quad City Mallards can clinch a playoff berth with: a win AND Tulsa loss OR loss in overtime/shootout AND Tulsa loses in regulation.
