MOLINE, Ill. – The Quad City Storm are gearing up for the 2020-21 season, beginning to announce signings on their new Facebook Live show “Stormy Mondays”. Only one episode has actually aired, as the second episode was first postponed and then canceled due to the derecho that the Midwest experienced a week ago Monday.
The first two signings for the Storm in the upcoming season that is expected to start in December are returning players, who were tied as the top goal-scorers on the team last season. Taylor Pryce was the first player announced on August 3, with Stephen Gaul announced on August 13. Both players totaled 15 goals each last season, Pryce adding 16 assists, while Gaul added 13. This will be Pryce’s second season with the Storm, while Gaul has appeared in action for the Storm since the inaugural season of 2018-19.
Pryce signed with the Storm during the 2019 off-season, quickly becoming one of the top players after racking up only 13 goals in his previous two seasons between the Mississippi RiverKings, Pensacola Ice Flyers, and Fayetteville Marksmen. Last season he also gained ECHL experience, skating in two games with the Wichita Thunder after a call-up with the team on February 15, 2020.
Said Pryce on episode one of Stormy Monday, “Any time you go another year, that means you’re another year older and more experienced. You kind of grow with the guys and pick up things and you fine-tune your game, but I feel like I didn’t change too much as a player. More so it was to do with (head coach Dave Pszenyczny) giving me an opportunity and sticking with it and not having a short leash. I wasn’t afraid to make a mistake and I knew with hard work, he would reward me. That took a lot of pressure off my shoulders and allowed me to play my game.”
Gaul joined the Storm late in the 2018-19 season after being acquired in a trade with the Peoria Rivermen in February 2019 that also brought Dean Yakura and the rights to Joe Widmar in exchange for Austin Hervey. While with the Storm in 18-19, he scored seven goals and tallied three assists in 19 games. The 2020-21 season will be Gaul’s second full season, third overall, with the Storm.
