NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – After recently renewing their affiliation with the Washington Capitals, the Stingrays took another step to further their relationship. The team will wear special Capitals-themed third jerseys for the upcoming season.
The jersey adopts the style of the current home red jerseys for Washington and will feature the Stingray as the main logo and Washington’s secondary “Weagle” logo on the shoulders.
The Capitals affiliation with South Carolina has proved to be a mutually beneficial relationship. Both Washington Netminders Braden Holtby and Philip Grubauer spent time in South Carolina nets for the Stingrays. This past season, Capitals goalie prospect Vitek Vanecek helped the Stingrays to one of their best seasons in franchise history.
“We are proud to be affiliated with such a first-class organization,” said Stingrays President Rob Concannon. “As our relationship and fan base continues to grow, we thought it would be a great idea to design a jersey that represents the Capitals and the Stingrays. ‘Rocking the Red’ will give our players and fans a great sense of pride as we head into the 2016-17 season.”
The Hershey Bears have also worn Capitals tribute jerseys in the past.
The 2016-17 season is getting closer and closer now with the opening game against Greenville on Saturday, October 22nd. Stay tuned to The Sin Bin for the latest.
