NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – Today the South Carolina Stingrays announced the team will make a 4,500 mile pre-season trip to Anchorage, Alaska to take on the Aces in three pre-season games. The Stingrays have made the trip once before prior to the start of the 2008-2009 season. It was a season that eventually saw the two teams face each other in the Kelly Cup Finals and South Carolina securing its third kelly Cup
“At our league meetings in Las Vegas, Alaska approached us with the idea,” said Stingrays President Rob Concannon. Training Camp is an important time, and being able to play three games against someone different will be a good measuring stick.”
The trip will last from October 9-14 with games on Monday, October 10th, Tuesday, October 11th and Thursday, October 13th. As a result, there will be no pre-season game hosted by the Stingrays this year. The teams are not scheduled to face each other in the 2016-17 regular season after Alaska visited North Charleston this past January.
This news comes off announcements of the re-signing of playoff hero Joe Devin and the addition of rookie forward Steven McParland of Providence College.
