LAFAYETTE, LA – Jeremy Boyer scored 30 seconds into the game, and the Louisiana IceGators never looked back. After a lackluster game in Pensacola, the Gators played one of their most impressive games of the season on the road in Columbus. Newly acquired goaltender Eric Levine was spectacular in his IceGators debut, making 44 saves in his first professional shutout.

Tonight’s game was a polar opposite to Wednesday night’s game, a 5-0 loss to Pensacola at the Hangar. The IceGators kept the newly-resurgent Columbus Cottonmouths on the defensive early in the game, and capitalized on Boyer’s two first-period goals along with a shorthanded breakaway tally from Blake Hietala 7:32 in the period.

Jake Hauswirth’s line would provide the offense in the second period, with a good chemistry developing with speedy rookie Johnny Daniels. Hauswirth and Daniels both scored and assisted on each others goals in the middle frame. Daniels scored early in the second period, and Hausy scored with about four minutes remaining in the period.

Cottonmouths goalie Shannon Szabados was pulled after Hauswirth’s goal in favor of Brandon Jaeger. The Gators would finally take their foot off the gas offensively in the third period and settled into a stifling backchecking scheme, with Alex Hudson’s line putting the brakes on the Cottonmouths’ offensive attempts. The Snakes rarely threatened in this game, despite their 44 shots on Levine.

The IceGators will take the long bus trip back to Louisiana tonight, as they face the Huntsville Havoc tomorrow night at 7:05pm.
