The Quad City Mallards lost 2-1 to the Indy Fuel today in another shorthanded performance.
Only 14 skaters played for the Mallards today, Vladimir Nikiforov and Zach Pochiro sitting out with injuries from last night’s 4-1 loss to Indy. Raphael Bussieres, Tanner Eberle, Kevin Henderson, and Kevin Gibson also sat out this afternoon’s game with injuries. Guillaume Gelinas has not been reassigned to the Mallards from the AHL’s Iowa Wild yet after his second call-up within one week.
Tyler Gjurich signed with the Mallards to fill a spot on the short roster, it was announced this morning. Gjurich is a right winger who played 17 games this season for the Danbury Titans of the Federal Hockey League.
The Fuel scored two quick goals in the first period, setting the pace for the rest of the game. Matt S. White slipped the puck past Steve Michalek at 3:04 with help from Peter Schneider. Ben Marshall scored at 6:07 from Rhett Bly and Kyle Stroh.
Olivier Archambault scored the lone Mallards goal at 8:43 from Mike Monfredo and Anthony Collins.
The game had few penalties, only seven between the two teams with most of them being for tripping infractions.
The Mallards return to action on Wednesday 30 December at the iWireless Center when they take on the Evansville IceMen at 6:30.
