BRIDGEPORT, CT – It was deja vu all over again for the Thunderbirds against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. A second period goal by Jake Bischoff lifted the Sound Tigers past the Thunderbirds to a 2-1 victory on Tuesday.
The Sound Tigers took the lead almost halfway through the first period. Ryan Pullock setup Josh Winquist and Winquist blasted a one-timer past Thunderbirds goaltender Sam Brittain to go up 1-0.
Thunderbirds defenseman Thomas Schemitsch quickly turned it around when he scored his first American Hockey League goal with help from Stephen MacAulay and Anthony Greco. Schemitsch took a wrist shot that went through Sound Tigers goaltender Eamon McAdam to tie the game at 1-1.
Both teams received a power play late in the first period but could not convert their chances.
The Sound Tigers received an opportunity and the scored the game-winning goal in the second period. Jake Bischoff scored another one-timer for the Sound Tigers past Brittain to the give the Sound Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Both teams fired a total of eight shots in the third period. Brittain made 16 saves in the loss, while McAdam made 19 saves in the win.
The Thunderbirds will continue their final road trip of the campaign when they take on their I-91 rival the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday night at the XL Center where the puck will drop at 7:15 pm. Then on Saturday, the Thunderbirds will play their final road game of the year against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Saturday at 7:00 pm.
NOTES: Thunderbirds defenseman MacKenzie Weegar made his National Hockey League debut on Monday night when the Florida Panthers took on the Montreal Canadiens. Weegar received a total of 16:44 of TOI on Monday night.
Thunderbirds goaltender Reto Berra got the start for the Panthers on Monday night and made 27 saves in the 4-1 loss.
Former Springfield Falcon Jonathan Marchessault scored his 30th goal of the year for the Panthers.
