ANCHORAGE, AK — The Rapid City Rush avoided a weekend sweep of the Alaska Aces with a 3-2 win in the final game of the series on Sunday.

The Rush broke the scoreless tie in the middle frame at 13:02 when Michael Young tallied his 4th goal of the season on a powerplay.

Just over three minutes later, however, the Aces knotted it back at 1-1 when Justin Brenton knocked in the rebound attempt at 16:12 of the period.

But the Rush would regain the lead once more at 18:30 with a smooth tip-in shot by Daniel Barczuk.

Rapid City would extend their lead with their second powerplay goal of the night just minutes into the final frame when James Melindy scored his second goal of the season at 2:15.

The Aces wouldn’t go quietly into the night.  They peppered the Rush netminder Danny Battochio with 18-shots in the final period but it wasn’t until the final 15-seconds of the game that the puck was able to sneak it’s way past off Garet Hunt’s tip-in.

Danny Battochio takes the win, stopping 40-of-42 shots faced and Troy Redman takes the loss, stopping 13-of-16 shots faced.

Rapid City is off until after the Christmas holiday when they will take on the Colorado Eagles in a home-and-home weekend series traveling to Colorado on December 26th and hosting the Eagles on December 27th.
