TUCSON, AZ — The Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL announced they will be sending seven players to the Black Hills. Please welcome the following: forwards Brett Perlini, Ryan Walters, Lindsay Sparks, Hunter Fejes, and Mark Cooper, and defenseman Michael Young and Michael Boivin.
“With any player, they want to play at the highest level possible. With that being said, we are very excited to have these players going forward but also understand that part of our jobs is to develop these players and get them on to the next level in addition to producing a winning team in Rapid City,” said Rush Head Coach Mark DeSantis.
We’ve already discussed Brett Perlini, Ryan Walters, Lindsay Sparks, and Michael Young when they were sent to the AHL training camp with the Roadrunners.
Hunter Fejes is making his professional debut after skating with the Colorado College Tigers during his college years. Fejes amassed 26 goals and 30 assists during his 138 games with the Tigers, which spanned four seasons. He did skate in 10 games with the former Springfield Falcons of the AHL as well.
Mark Cooper, another rookie forward, skated 157 games in the collegiate ranks with Bowling Green University where he amassed 45 goals and 46 assists. During that tenure he was named to both the WCHA’s All-Academic Team and Third All-Star Team. Before coming to the Black Hills he has also suited up for two contests with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.
The final newcomer to the Rush organization is defenseman Michael Boivin, who is beginning his fourth season of professional hockey. Most recently Boivin skated in 62 games last season with the Manchester Monarchs, which included one appearance in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, of the ECHL where he amassed 10 goals and 23 assists.
To make room for the players coming down, the Rush released Reid Halabi, Evan Dixon, Vytal Cote, Cody Castro, Corey Hale, Andrew Schmit, and Andrew Hare.
Things are coming together for the Rush as they continue training camp this week, hold their season ticket member banquet this Wednesday night, and prepare for their home opener on Friday at 7:05pm.
