RAPID CITY, SD — The Rush faced off against the division leading Utah Grizzlies last night in their 3rd of a 5-game stretch between these two teams.  Rapid City pocketed two goals from Zach Cohen which sent the game past OT and into an 11-round shootout before falling 3-2.

After a scoreless 1st period that saw the Grizzlies hold a 13-11 advantage in shots, the hometown team lit the lamp first at 3:01 of the middle frame when Michael Young zipped a pass to Zach Cohen in the slot who ripped the puck through the 5-hole of Utah’s netminder.

Utah answered back quickly, though, when Torin Snydeman’s shot on goal was deflected past Marek Langhamer at 4:01 of the second to knot the game 1-1.

The Grizzlies would get the go-ahead goal late in the 3rd period when the Rush turned the puck over on the powerplay and Jon Puskar took advantage with the shorthanded goal at 15:06.

Zach Cohen would even it back up, however, with his second goal of the night when he ripped the puck into the upper corner with 2:20 left in regulation that would eventually send the game into overtime.

Both teams had numerous scoring chances in the extra frame, including several odd-man chances, but both goalies stood firm to keep the game even and force a shootout.

Torin Snydeman netted the eventual game winner in the 11th round to secure the win for the visiting team.

Marek Langhamer takes the loss in the shootout and is now 1-1-1 on the season, stopping 28-of-30 shots in regulation and overtime.

Both teams will face off again this Friday with the puck drop scheduled for 7:05pm MT at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Ice Arena.  Friday Night is slated for “Military Appreciation Night” with specialty jerseys being worn to honor our nation’s military.  Please come out and support our home town team and participate in the jersey auction to follow.
