RAPID CITY, SD — After two straight games of an offensive explosion, the Rapid City Rush were looking to complete the weekend sweep of the visiting Quad City Mallards. A fierce game coupled with a few key shots in the 3rd period lifted the visiting Mallards to a 2-1 win and a weekend split.
Zach Cohen would get the night started right, lighting the lamp at 4:26 of the opening frame which released a barrage of stuffed animals for the 8th Annual Teddy Bear Toss. As luck would have it, the Voice of the Rush Mark Binetti was finally able to launch his stuffed animal over the glass from the press box after attempting this Herculean feat the past two seasons.
The middle frame was filled an a massive array of penalties by both clubs totaling 60 minutes between them both. Among the numerous penalties, though, both netminders stood strong to keep the Rush advantage at 1-0 heading into the final frame.
Matt Carey would equalize the contest at 1-1 at the 7:18 mark to put the pressure on the home team.
Just under 4-minutes later the visiting Mallards would take the lead with the eventual game winner by Sam Warning at 10:42. Warning would take a shot from the high slot past Rush goaltender Danny Battochio’s stickside to give his team the lead.
Battochio took the loss, stopping 35-of-37 shots faced.
The Rush will hit the road for a 3-game series against the Alaska Aces starting Friday, December 18th and finishing on Sunday, December 20th. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:15pm MT on Friday and Saturday and 5:05pm MT for Sunday’s contest.
