RAPID CITY, SD — On the verge of setting a new franchise record for consecutive losses the Rapid City Rush secure a 3-1 win over the visiting Idaho Steelheads before the upcoming holidays.

The Rush have had a rough stint of late with their last win coming against the Tulsa Oilers at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center at November 25th.

Similar to Friday night’s close defeat the Rush were able to light the lamp first.  Pavel Jenys picked up his ninth goal of the season when he came off a shift change and blasted the puck from the blue line by Steelheads netminder Ryan Faragher with 8:06 gone by.  Just over three minutes later the Rush picked up their first short-handed goal of the regular season with a beautiful backhander by Jack Walker that went top shelf at 11:23 for the 2-0 advantage.  The goal was Walker’s third of his career and third in as many nights since joining the organization.  Idaho would cut the lead in half when Joe Faust fired the puck from the blue line and by Rush netminder Shane Owen at 16:25 of the first period.

Rapid City kept the tempo going in their favor in the middle frame as they out-shot Idaho 12-10 and scored the lone tally of the period.  The goal came at 11:46 when Geoff Fortman scores his second goal of the year, his first in a Rush jersey, and it would end up being the final tally of the contest.

Each netminder stood tall over the final 20 minutes of regulation and the Rush come away with the 3-1 victory to end their 10-game slump.

Both teams were unable to score on the man-advantage and the visiting Steelheads barely out-shot the Rush 29-to-28.

Shane Owen gets credit for the win stopping 28-of-29 shots on the night while Ryan Faragher takes the loss stopping 25-of-28 shots.

The Rush will return to action after the Christmas holiday to close out the 2017 calendar year with a pair of games against the Colorado Eagles on Friday and Saturday.  Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 7:05 pm MT at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Ice Arena.
