INDIANAPOLIS – The Rockford IceHogs announced on Thursday afternoon they have assigned defenseman Robin Press and forward Radovan Bondra to the Indy Fuel. The addition of Bondra and Press brings the number of NHL/AHL contracted players in Indy to seven, counting Collin Delia who will split time with Indy and Rockford this season.

Press spent half of last season with the Fuel, earning two goals, eight assists in 30 games. In nine games with Rockford last season and two this year, Press hasn’t tallied a point. Erik Piri of Elite Prospects lists Press as “A former forward, Press displays natural offensive instincts as a defenseman. Owns a great shot and size, and likes to join the attack. Could stand to improve in other areas of the game, such as skating and defensive coverage.”

Along with Press, the IceHogs sent forward Radovan Bondra. Bondra represented his native Slovakia at a third straight World Junior Championship this past season. The native of Trebisov, Slovakia was traded from the Vancouver Giants of the WHL to the Prince George Cougars last season, where he continued scoring at a point-per-game pace. (Dobber Prospects)

According to Elite Prospects, Bondra is a strong, shifty winger that plays a skill game, “Good puck-handling ability; protects the puck exceptionally well with his size. Could be more physical, but that will come. All-in-all, a talented scorer that can be very difficult for the opposition to contain.” For Fuel fans, think of Marek Tvrdon. A very similar playing style, quick shot, not afraid to drive to the net.

Rockford is sending several players to the Fuel this season which can be a blessing and a curse at the same time. One side says that the AHL caliber players in an ECHL game will be beneficial when it comes to winning games but if Rockford continues to bring players up and down, it will be difficult for players to develop chemistry because they aren’t always playing together. Only time will tell for Fuel fans. Having seven NHL/AHL contracted players on the roster certainly helps so for the time being, enjoy the skill you get to see.
