GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Detroit Red Wings made a slew of roster moves following their final preseason game. The Red Wings have assigned Dylan Sadowy, Axel Holmstrom, Dominic Turgeon, Vili Saarijarvi, Joe Hicketts, Dan Renouf, Dominik Shine, Colin Campbell, Matt Ford, Filip Hronek, and Robbie Russo to the Griffins. Renouf and Shine were assigned earlier this week but were recalled to play in the final preseason match against the Maple Leafs.
AHL veteran goalie Tom McCollum has also cleared waivers and has been assigned to the Griffins. Dylan Mcllrath, Brian Lashoff, Ben Street, Matt Lorito and Jared Coreau have all been placed on waivers and will be assigned to the Griffins at noon tomorrow if they all clear.
All of them, with the exception of Saarijarvi, played for the Griffins last season helping them to a Calder Cup championship.
The Griffins also made a couple of roster moves assigning Pat Nagle and Kevin Tansey to the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL.
Coreau is expected to have interest in the waiver wire. It has been rumored that the Toronto Maple Leafs and possibly the Calgary Flames have interest in Coreau as a possible backup. No other player entering the waiver wire has been rumored to have interest from other teams.
The roster is now at 19 for the Griffins who will open up practice this week in Grand Rapids. They will open up the season at home this Friday, October 6th when they host the Manitoba Moose. Grand Rapids will also play the Moose on Saturday, October 7th at the Van Andel Arena.
