ELMIRA, NY – The Elmira Jackals fanbase hasn’t had much to cheer about lately.
With everything that’s going on off the ice, the team itself has struggled massively as they are currently on a sixteen-game losing streak. Their last win came January 20th against the Manchester Monarchs, the team has only had 4 points since the start of January, and hasn’t held a lead during a game since February 4th.
Even with the recent struggles, there’s still hope the Jackals can play spoiler.
In four of their last five games (including Thursday night against Alaska), the Jackals have lost by two goals, three of the five by one goal, both in overtime. Against Quad City, the Jackals forced overtime twice, one went to a shootout before losing. Against Reading, the team was able to outshoot the Royals on Sunday. Last night, the Jackals hung with the Aces for most of the game, but could not get the game-tying goal after narrowing the Aces lead to one earlier in the third period.
I say all that to say that if you watched the last few games, the Jackals haven’t been playing terrible, the breaks are just not falling their way….which has been the story for a good part of the season.
Hopefully as the season winds down and the Jackals have 15 of their last 20 games at home, the fanbase can rally around the team and the Jackals can make it tough for opponents to come in and win.
Royals/Jackals Makeup Date Announced:
The Reading Royals and the Elmira Jackals announced the makeup date on February 17th. The game will be made up on February 28th with a 7:05pm start at First Arena.
Last Friday, the game came to a halt in the first period as part of the ice came up at First Arena during the first period of the Royals/Jackals game. The part was fixed but wasn’t able to freeze fast enough as the league wouldn’t let the game continue. Both clubs tried finishing the game in the First Arena rec rink but weren’t successful. The game will resume with 6:07 left in the first period with the Royals up 2-0.
The Elmira Jackals have three more home games this weekend, as they welcome Florida on tonight and tomorrow night, and Reading for the makeup game on Tuesday.
Florida not only leads the South Division by twelve points but is one of the best teams in the league. The Everblades have a record of 35-10-2-3 and look to increase their lead in the division.
