LEHIGH VALLEY, PA – This afternoon, Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Ron Hextall announced that the Flyers have assigned seven players to the American Hockey League’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms: goaltenders Martin Ouellette (pictured) and Mark Dekanich; forwards Steven Swavely, Chris McCarthy and Kevin Sundher; and defensemen Jesper Pettersson and Maxim LaMarche.
Ouellette, 24, split last season between the Phantoms and ECHL’s Reading Royals. In Reading, Ouelette made 31 appearances, going 17-10-3 with a 2.10 G.A.A. and a .922 SV %. In nine appearances for Lehigh Valley, he was 5-3-0, 2.36, 0.933.
Swavely, 24, was signed by the Flyers as an undrafted free agent. After his season ended at the University of Maine, he joined Lehigh Valley, collecting three goals in 15 games.
McCarthy, 25, spent last season with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack. In 54 games, the Collegeville, PA native added 22 points (6G/16A) to go along with 19 penalty minutes.
Sundher missed most of the last season due to injury, but in 19 appearances between the Phantoms and Royals, he collected eight goals and seven assists. In six playoff appearances for Reading, he added another goal a two assists.
Pettersson, a 7th round draft pick by the Flyers in 2014,had 20 points (4G/16A) in 43 games for Reading,while also contributing seven points (1G/6A) in 14 playoff contests. In 24 games for the Phantoms, he recorded three points.
LaMarche, 24, Appeared in 56 games between Lehigh Valley and Reading, contributing a combined six goals and twelve assists for 18 points.
It is possible that some of these players could filter down to ECHL Reading’s camp, slated to open October 1.
Training camp for the Phantoms’ third season in Allentown opens September 30th. They host the Charlotte Checkers in preseason action October 7th & 8th, then open their 2016 season on October 15th at PPL Center.
