Peoria Rivermen center Tim Hall scored a pair of goals, including the third-period game-winner as the Rivermen avoided a weekend sweep by the Louisiana IceGators, 3-2.

The IceGators, playing without suspended enforcers Tyler Barr & Anthony Pisano. Injured defenseman Eric Tallent was behind the bench in place of the suspended Drew Omicioli, put forth a subdued effort but managed to stay in the game thanks to a pair of second period goals.

The IceGators had a great chance in the third period due to a five-minute power play, but were unable to do anything other than a pair of shots in the extended man advantage. Four minutes into the third period, Rivermen forward Luke Sandler ran IceGators defenseman Dan Cornell head-first into the glass by the blue line, appearing to break Cornell’s nose in the process. Cornell would leave the game and not return, and Sandler got ejected for the hit.

Other than Sandler’s shenanigans, Sunday’s contest was a far cry from the previous night’s penalty-filled affair. The Rivermen controlled play for most of the first period, but it would be special teams that would provide the game’s first goal. While the IceGators ineffective power play unit was on the ice, Alec Hagaman would score a short-handed marker near the end of the first period.

The Louisiana offense would come to life for a while in the second period, especially when the Buco-Hudson-Hood line was on the ice. Alex Hudson’s line accounted for both of the IceGators’ goals. The first goal was scored by Steve Buco at the 14:27 mark of the second frame which tied the game at one. After Timmy Hall scored his first goal shortly after Buco’s marker, Dylan Hood would snipe in a shot from the bottom of the right circle to even up the game with two minutes remaining in the middle frame.

Hall’s game winner was scored with 3:20 remaining in the third period, as the center would tip in an open rebound after an initial save of a Dan Bremner shot by Adam Courchaine, who played another quality game in net with 35 saves. Courchaine would finish the weekend with an incredible 120 saves on 127 shot attempts by Peoria – a .945 SV% over three games.

The IceGators go into Thankgiving week with plenty of uncertainty. Left winger Chris Wilson was out of the lineup for all three games in Peoria, Eric Tallent had his left arm in a sling behind the IceGators’ bench, the extent of Cornell’s injury is unknown, and the impending suspensions of Barr, Pisano, and Omicioli will all factor into the IceGators’ upcoming games. The IceGators resume their road trip at Pensacola on Wednesday, at Columbus on Friday, then back at the Cajundome on Saturday against the Huntsville Havoc.
