WILKES-BARRE, PA – David Warsofsky‘s game-winning goal gave the Penguins a 2-1 victory as well as the series lead.
The first period was scoreless. The Penguins outshot the Bruins 13-5.
Penguins defenseman Tim Erixon opened up the scoring with 16.2 seconds left the second period. Dominik Simon made the pass to Erixon and faked a slap shot and instead fired a wrist shot past Bruins goaltender Zane McIntyre to go up 1-0.
The Penguins would convert on the power play again just 92 seconds into the third period. Kevin Porter won the faceoff and David Warsofsky fired a slap shot that went past McIntyre to go up 2-0. Warsofsky and Porter are now tied for the lead in the overall points of the Calder Cup playoffs with six.
Jordan Szwarz would get the Bruins on the board. Cave fired a shot at Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith and Szwarz was able to take the puck off of a deflection and able to put it in with the backhand to make it 2-1.
The Bruins tried to continue the comeback to get the equalizer after they pulled goaltender Zane McIntyre. The Bruins fired shots as they were blocked by Penguins defenseman or goaltender Casey DeSmith as the Penguins were able to hold on for the victory.
Casey DeSmith made 32 saves in the win for the Penguins while Bruins goaltender Zane McIntyre made 30 saves in the loss.
The Penguins went two for five on the power play while the Bruins went one for five.
The Bruins hope to not be eliminated tonight when game four will be played as the puck will drop at 7:00 P.M. at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
