SUNRISE, FL- The Florida Panthers Hockey Of Operations Dale Tallon announced a couple trades during the National Hockey League Trade Deadline that will have a major impact on the roster of the Springfield Thunderbirds. The Panthers have acquired goaltender Adam Wilcox from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for goaltender Mike McKenna. Wilcox will report to the Thunderbirds, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Panthers.
Wilcox has a 18-9-2 record during the 2016-17 campaign with the Syracuse Crunch. He has a 2.87 G.AA and a .895 save percentage along with one shutout in 34 starts. He has played a total of 63 games in the AHL with a record of 27-23-8.
McKenna’s record with the Thunderbirds was 9-10-7 with a .907 save percentage and a 2.83 G.AA. McKenna made his final start as a Thunderbirds this past weekend posting his first shutout of the year with a 2-0 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack. McKenna became the first American-born goaltender to reach 200 wins when he took a victory against the Hartford Wolf Pack on February 19th.
The Panthers also traded defenseman Dylan MclIrath and a conditional third round draft pick to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Thomas Vanek. MclIrath played in 18 games with the Thunderbirds registering a goal and three assists.
The Florida Panthers have also traded forward Shane Harper to the New Jersey Devils for defenseman Reese Scarlett. Scarlett will report to the Thunderbirds. Scarlett has played in 50 games with the Albany Devils throughout the year. He has registered four goals and 17 assists for 21 points. Harper logged in 39 games with the Thunderbirds during the 2016-17 year registering seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points.
The Thunderbirds also announced they have recalled defenseman Thomas Schemitsch and forward Zac Lynch from the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL.
The Thunderbirds are back in action tonight as they take on their I-91 rival, the Hartford Wolf Pack, at the XL Center. The puck will drop at 7:00 P.M.
