Oilers Edge Thunder In Series Finale

TULSA, Okla. The game wasn’t as fiery as it was on Friday night, but the Tulsa Oilers completed their season series with their oldest rival on Saturday night with a back-and-forth affair with the Wichita Thunder before 5,552 in the BOK Center.

The Thunder kicked off the scoring in the first period with a goal by Spencer Dorowicz, who chipped the puck over Devin Williams in the 15th minute of the first period. That was answered a little over a minute later when Jake Clifford fired the disc from the point and through Thunder goalie Dylan Wells to level the board at a goal each.
That set the tempo of the match to come, as it seemed that every goal scored by one team was answered quickly by the other team. Miles Liberati took a pass from Jared Thomas and ripped in a one-timer to push the Oilers ahead by one in the second period’s sixth minute. That goal was answered about five minutes later by Stefan Fournier to bring the teams back even at two. Thomas then got one of his own on the rebound three minutes after that to once again put the home side ahead, 3-2.
Wichita once again brought the score to even when Jason Salvaggio threw the puck top shelf over Williams at 14:08 of the final frame. This was answered with just under six minutes to play by Tulsa’s Charlie Sampair, who punched through a rebound of is own to give the Oilers their second win in a row over Wichita and his third goal in as many games.
The victory pulled the Oilers to .500 for the first time since October and narrowed the gap they needed to traverse to get a playoff berth. Tulsa has now pulled to within four points of Rapid City, who defeated the Allen Americans on Saturday.
The Oilers will take on Kansas City on Sunday afternoon. The puck drops at 3:05pm CST.
