WICHITA, Kan. – The last time Wichita and Allen played in INTRUST Bank Arena, roughly 180 days ago, the Thunder won and earned a split of the 12-game season series with the Americans.

In the first of 14 matchups, including three straight, the Allen Americans struck first, defeating Wichita 4-0.

Spencer Asuchak opened the scoring for the Americans, when just as a Thunder penalty had expired, he side-stepped a Thunder defender and beat Dylan Wells to give Allen a 1-0 lead.

One of the major headlines from of the game, however, was Wichita’s inability to score on the man-advantage. In the opening period alone, Wichita had four full two-minute power plays and failed to convert on any of them.

Braylon Shmyr made it 2-0 at 14:57 of the second when Dante Salituro created a turnover near the net and he potted his first of the year.

The Americans added two more in the third as Zach Pochiro and Salituro beat Wells to make it 4-0.

One night after getting shelled in Kansas City, Americans netminder C.J. Motte pitched a shutout against the Thunder. Salituro led all scorers with three points on the night (one goal, two assists).

Each team is 1-1-0-0 after opening weekend, with the next two games of the three-game set coming Friday night in Wichita and Saturday in Allen.
