GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Manitoba Moose were making there first visit to Van Andel Arena since 2010 and didn’t receive much of a welcome as they were pounded 7-2 by the hometown Griffins.
This was a night they would like to forget as a former Winnipeg Jet Eric Tangradi scored a career high 5 points with 2 goals and 3 helpers. Grand Rapids also got strong offensive games from Andy Miele who had 1 goal and 3 assists , Robbie Russo 1 goal and 3 assists and Anthony Mantha had 1 goal and 2 assists . Some big offensive numbers for those players were certainly helpful getting the win.
Connor Hellebuyck was in the pipes for the Moose and he was in the goal for all 7 Grand Rapids goals as he stopped 28 of 35 shots.
Chase De Leo scored his 16th on the power play after some nice work from Brenden Kichton and Patrice Cormier. Dan DeSalvo notched his 1st AHL goal a power play marker after he converted a John Albert feed. DeSalvo whom was recently signed by the Moose was the leading scorer in Tulsa (ECHL) so he is an offensive guy who will get a good chance in Manitoba.
Albert who has been out of the line up for the last four games returned and his lower body injury didn’t seem to slow him down.
Jared Coreau stopped 20 shots to get the win for the Griffins.
These two teams will battle again Saturday night with Grand Rapids leading the season series 2-1.
Notes: The Moose signed defenceman Jake Baker to a pro try-out agreement and have re-assigned forward Ben Walker back to Tulsa. Baker has played 2 games with the Moose and has been with Quad City of the ECHL for the season. The Moose may be losing a defenceman to the Jets as Dustin Byfuglien is a game time decision on Saturday for Winnipeg with an upper body injury.
