BRAMPTON, ONT– The Manchester Monarchs will move on to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2015 as they eliminated the Brampton Beast in a crucial game six at the Powerade Centre by the final score of 5-4. The Monarchs will now meet the South Carolina Stingrays in the next round.
The Beast got onto the board 6:05 into the opening period. Brandon Marino made a pass to David Pacan on the right side of Monarchs goaltender Sam Brittain. Pacan was able to put the puck into the open-net for his first of two goals in the game to go up 1-0.
Ashton Rome tied the game for the Monarchs with 5:25 remaining in the first period. He took a wrist shot as it went off the blocker of Beast goaltender Zach Fucale to tie it at 1-1.
The Beast retook the lead with eight seconds left in the first period. Reggie Traccitto and David Pacan went on an odd man rush. Traccitto shot a one-timer and went off the blocker of Brittain to make it 2-1.
Kevin Morris tied the game for the Monarchs 4:30 into the second period with an unassisted goal when he took a wrist shot that went through Fucale and tied it at 2-2.
The Beast did not go away quietly as Luke Pither scored with 1:27 remaining in the second period. Pither had the puck in the right corner and flipped the puck to the Monarchs zone as the puck went through three Monarchs players to give them a 3-2 lead.
The Monarchs tied the game 23 seconds into the third period. Ashton Rome and Alexx Privitera went on an odd man rush. Rome tipped it in to tie the game at 3-3.
The Monarchs took their first lead of the night when Zac Lynch scored his fifth goal of the playoffs. After a faceoff win from Matt Leitner, Lynch used the forehand-to-backhand deke past Fucale to give the Monarchs a 4-3 lead.
David Pacan tied the game for the Beast at 11:11 into the third period on the power play. He found the loose puck and put it past Brittain to tie it at 4-4.
Matt Leitner would be the hero for the Monarchs as he scored the game-winning goal with 4:22 remaining in regulation. Leitner deflected a pass from Zac Lynch and past Fucale for the 5-4 lead.
The Monarchs will enjoy sometime off before taking on the South Carolina Stingrays in the Eastern Conference Finals. Game One will be held on Friday May 12.
