The Quad City Mallards were defeated by the Cincinnati Cyclones in overtime Saturday night 3-2.
Raphael Bussieres and Tommy Mele dropped the gloves, exchanging rights before tumbling to the ice.
The Mallards took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, Kevin Henderson and Vladimir Nikiforov the goal scorers.
Jake Baker and Seth Ambroz fought at 7:22 of the middle frame. Just 90 seconds later, Zach Budish scored to end Brody Hoffman’s shut-out bid.
Mele tied the game with just over four and a half minutes to go in the game, leading to an overtime which would last 2:16.
Jack Downing won the game on the Cyclones’ 42nd shot on goal. The Mallards only had 14 shots on goal, including their two in the overtime period. The fact that they were able to score two goals on only 12 shots in regulation is a great surprise.
The Mallards will play in Toledo this afternoon at 5:15 to round out their road trip and will return to the i-Wireless Center on Wednesday, February 3 at 6:30 PM against the Rapid City Rush.
