The Mallards announced two signings today: Vladimir Nikiforov and Logan Nelson.
Nikiforov is still just 27 but seems like he’s been around longer. He has already played six pro seasons, since first turning pro at age 20. He has played in 282 games, so he is over the 260 game threshold and will count as a veteran (even if the 10 FHL games don’t count). He played for the Mallards in 2013-14 and had 14 goals and 31 assists in 63 games. Last year he played in Europe for three different teams and had 36 points in 30 games. He should provide some speed to the Mallards’ offense.
Nelson had an excellent rookie season, but did miss a chunk of the season due to injury. He came back just in time for the playoffs, but did not seem quite the same as before the injury. Hopefully the offseason gives him a chance to get healthy. He will be just 22 when the season starts. I’m excited to watch his game develop. He ended up with 16 goals and 12 assists in 43 games last year.
