The Mallards announced the signings of defenseman Austin Coldwell and forward Cody Fidgett today.
Coldwell played in 12 regular season games plus all seven playoff games for the Mallards last year. He ended up with a total of two goals and seven assists in those games. He also did a good job of staying out of the penalty box with just 10 PIM.
Fidgett is a rookie who played at Trinity Western University last year. He had 25 goals and 16 assists in just 23 games. Coach Ruskowski had this to say about Fidgett in the Mallards’ press release:
“Fidgett could be a real dark horse for us. He’s never played in the highest caliber leagues but he’s always been the dominant player in the leagues he’s played in,” said Ruskowski. “What turned me on to him was when he played in a couple of exhibition games last year against St. Cloud State and Minnesota State and one of the opposing coaches said, ‘Where did that kid come from? Why didn’t we get him?’ He’s not big but he’s fast and explosive and can drive to the net. He’s unproven based on where he’s played but he could be a diamond in the rough.”
