MOLINE, IL – The Quad City Mallards lost 4-1 to the Indy Fuel in a very lackluster performance Saturday night. The Mallards appeared to have nothing in the tank, despite having five days off for Christmas.
Brody Hoffman appeared to be the only Mallards putting effort into the game, making 39 surprising saves. He had no help from the Mallards defensive squad, and the offense looked unmotivated.
The Mallards offense seemed scared of the puck, only sending it 21 times towards Mac Carruth.
Peter Schneider slipped the first puck past Hoffman at 10:47 of the first period, Nick Mattson and Anders Franzen assisting on the powerplay tally.
Matt Carey scored the only Mallards goal at 16:21 of the first period. This was also on the powerplay as Zach Miskovic was seated for hooking. Alex Gudbranson and Mike Monfredo assisted on Carey’s goal.
The second period was scoreless.
Miskovic scored his own goal at 6:39 of the third period from Matt S. White and Mattson. At 16:48 Rhett Bly scored from Kyle Stroh and Miskovic. With 16 seconds left Schneider scored on the empty net.
With the loss by the Cincinnati Cyclones, the Mallards retain a three-point lead atop the ECHL’s Midwest Division.
