The Quad City Mallards won 2-1 in the shootout against the Cincinnati Cyclones tonight, breaking their road loss streak.
The first period was scoreless, and the second period was heading in that direction until Austin Coldwell scored at 19:28. Coldwell’s goal came while on the power play caused by Peter Quenneville’s high-sticking call. Vladimir Nikiforov and Mike Monfredo assisted on the tally.
Quenneville tied the game at 13:07 of the final period, Cody Carlson and Zach Budish assisting.
The game could not be settled in regulation, and three-on-three overtime gave no resolution.
Sam Warning was the only one to score during the shootout. He was the second shooter for the Mallards, the Cyclones shooting first as they were the home team.
The Mallards face the Evansville Icemen on Sunday at 5:15. That will be the second of four straight road games for the Mallards. The Icemen are currently at the bottom of the Western Conference and 27th out of 28 teams in points. The Icemen have only won six games out of sixteen, and the lowest goals for count in the ECHL.
