MOLINE, IL – The Quad City Mallards beat the Indy Fuel 3-2 in overtime in a heart-stopping comeback victory.

Alex Lavoie scored at 5:42 of the first period from Ben Marshall and Kevin Quick.

The Mallards believed they had scored at 6:58, but the goal was disallowed as Ryan Tesink was guilty of tripping goalie Mac Carruth outside of the crease.

The Mallards had a steady parade of players into the penalty box, giving Indy seven power plays. Only once was Indy able to capitalize, however. Lavoie scored on the power play at 8:15 of the third period, putting the Fuel up 2-0. Lavoie’s second tally came with help from Dylan Clarke and Rhett Bly.

Tanner Eberle was assessed a ten minute game misconduct at 17:48 of the third period for an unsportsmanlike conduct call.

After pulling Steve Michalek, Ryan Tesink was able to ruin Carruth’s shutout attempt with exactly 30 seconds left in the game. Tesink’s goal was assisted by Matt Neal.

19.3 seconds after Tesink’s goal, Neal scored to force the game into overtime with help from Sam Warning and Jake Baker.

Austin Coldwell scored during the three-on-three overtime period with 46 seconds left. Coldwell’s first goal of the season was assisted by Zach Pochiro.

Coach Terry Ruskowski was assessed a game misconduct at 4:14 of the overtime period.

The Mallards now have possession of first place in the Midwest Division. They next see action in Cincinnati against the Cyclones on Tuesday. Faceoff is at 6:30 pm.
