ESTERO, FL – Steven Lorentz and Justin Kea each scored but it was not enough as the South Carolina Stingrays defeated the Florida Everblades 4-2 Wednesday night in front of 4,584 fans at Germain Arena. The Wednesday night Stingrays win snapped the ‘Blades’ 12-game point-streak.
The Stingrays owned the first period of play and secured goals by Joey Leach and Joe Devin against ‘Blades netminder Callum Booth.
Lorentz put the ‘Blades on the board 8:26 into the second off a feed from Joe Cox and Josh Wesley. The tally was Lorentz’s third of the year.
Exiting the second intermission, Kea riffled a shot past Stingrays goaltender Parker Milner off a pass from Quentin Shore and Brett Bulmer. Five minutes later, the Stingrays secured the lead with a goal by Patrick Gaul, who was playing in his 300th ECHL game. With 92 seconds remaining, Joey Leach ended the ‘Blades chances sending a shot into the back of the net to lift the Stingrays to the 4-2 win.
The Stingrays will remain in Florida for two more battles against the ‘Blades when they return to the ice on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
